Six generations ago...
Located in the prime area of the Douro Demarcated Region and, at the same time, in the heart of the area classified by UNESCO, in 2001, as World Heritage, Quinta de Ribatorto extends, for about 40 hectares, on the slopes overlooking the right bank of the River Torto (tributary of the River Douro), next to the village of Casais do Douro, about 5 km from Pinhão. Almost all of its area is occupied by vineyards, but, whether to delimit contiguous plots of land or to serve as a natural border with neighboring properties, centenary olive trees also meander. The almond trees and the orchards with the tasty and aromatic Douro fruits complete a landscape to which the different seasons of the year give different shades. For six generations now owned by the Macedo family, with a lease in between, Quinta de Ribatorto – one of the original “Casais do Douro” – is now managed by the family business FMV, Lda. for the plans of memory and ancestral traditions the techniques of farming, production and marketing of wines, characteristic of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro until the last decades of the 20th century. XX. In addition to Port Wine, table wines and olive oil, the exploration of wine tourism, including local accommodation, is part of a purpose of development and dynamism, which, in honor of the memory of their families, the current owners intend to do.

The owners of Quinta de Ribatorto have the registration of two brands of table wine: “Dona Ester”, rosé wine, and “Goldfinch”, red wine. The designations are intended, symbolically, to honor their Parents and Grandparents, Ester and António Macedo. The name “Goldfinch” (Goldfinch in English) evokes the taste of both for nature and, in particular, for the elegance and soft delicacy of this small bird, whose beautiful and harmonious plumage is so often seen, even today, on the trees and slopes. from the farm.
